about

This is my favourite song. It was my dad's 70th birthday earlier in the year and we went for a week to New York - me, him and his pal, Tommy Gallagher. It was the first time he'd been. I'm really lucky to have great parents, my mum, Margaret and my dad, Ignatius. I've got five sisters and a brother and we were brought up in a total Celtic family. Celtic was a huge part of growing up. And the pub in New York, Jack Demsey's, where we went, wanted me to write a song that gave them a name check. This song means a lot to me because I was in New York with my dad, and there was a Celtic connection as well, which was great.

lyrics

We're back again at JFK
headed for Jack Demsey's place
on 33rd and old Broadway
I'll meet you there
On St Patrick's Day

It's the city built by Irish hands
searching for a new homeland
Scots, Irish and Americans
I'll see you there
on St Patrick's day

The Stars and the Stripes,
The green and the white,
United together along the avenue
The snow and the cold,
The young and the old,
The brave and the bold here's what we're going to do

We'll sing and we'll dance all day, then we'll drink the night away
For it's New York City, and St Patrick's day

The ticker tape falls from the sky
We sing the fields of Athenry
It's a pilgrimage that will never die
I'll see you there
On St Patrick's Day

The Empire State's a sight to see
It's lit up bright in emerald green
And this is where I want to be
NYC
On St Patrick's day

The Stars and the Stripes,
The green and the white,
United together along the avenue
The snow and the cold,
The young and the old,
The brave and the bold here's what we're going to do

We'll sing and we'll dance all day, then we'll drink the night away
for it's New York City, and St Patrick's day

We're gonna celebrate, a St Paddy's day parade
In the city that never sleeps, in the land of liberty
We'll sing and we'll dance all day, then we'll drink the night away
for it's New York City, and St Patrick's da
