Let the people sing their stories and their songs And the music of their native land Their lullabies and battlecries and songs of hope and joy So join us hand in hand All across this ancient land Throughout the test of time It was music that kept their spirits free Those songs of yours and of mine For those who are in love There's a song that's warm and tender For those who are oppressed In song you can protest So liberate your minds And give your soul expression Open up your hearts I'll sing for you this song Let the people sing their stories and their songs And the music of their native land Their lullabies and battlecries and songs of hope and joy So join us hand in hand All across this ancient land Throughout the test of time It was music that kept their spirits free Those songs of yours and of mine It was back in ancient times The bard would tell his stories Of heroes and of villains Of chieftains in the glen. With the passages of time time With passion and of glory To those who've gone before I'll sing to you once more Let the people sing their stories and their songs And the music of their native land Their lullabies and battlecries and songs of hope and joy So join us hand in hand All across this ancient land Throughout the test of time It was music that kept their spirits free Those songs of yours and of mine Ireland, land of song Your music lives forever In its valleys, in its mountains In its hills and in its glens Our music did survive Through famine and oppression To the generations gone I'll sing for you this song Let the people sing their stories and their songs And the music of their native land Their lullabies and battlecries and songs of hope and joy So join us hand in hand All across this ancient land Throughout the test of time It was music that kept their spirits free Those songs of yours and of mine Let the people sing their stories and their songs And the music of their native land Their lullabies and battlecries and songs of hope and joy So join us hand in hand All across this ancient land Throughout the test of time It was music that kept their spirits free Those songs of yours and of mine

When you walk through a storm Hold your head up high And don't be afraid of the dark At the end of the storm Is a golden sky And the sweet silver song of the lark Walk on through the wind Walk on through the rain Though your dreams be tossed and blown Walk on walk on with hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone You'll never walk alone Walk on walk on with hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone You'll never walk alone

Cesar held the cup up high Underneath that latin sky History was born on that warm night it was the 25th day of mAy the dream became reality The legend lives on Forevermore The night the mighty lions roared That was the best day of our lives The day we won the greatest prize Oh how our hearts they soared with pride Right underneath that lisbon sky That was the best day of our lives One down and the game had just begun But in our hearts we knew we'd overcome They said our chance was all but gone But up stepped Tommy, then came Stevie and the score was 2-1 The legend lives on Forevermore The night the mighty lions roared That was the best day of our lives The day we won the greatest prize Oh how our hearts they soared with pride Right underneath that lisbon sky That was the best day of our lives The legend lives on Forevermore The night the mighty lions roared That was the best day of our lives The day we won the greatest prize Oh how our hearts they soared with pride Right underneath that lisbon sky That was the best day of our lives

Well there are days when things don't go my way The only letters I get are the bills I can't play But then I look out my window It puts a smile on my face To see the Celtic supporters on the way to the game And I pick up my scarf And meet my dad the gates And it's a feeling that no one will ever take away And it's Celtic, and it's Celtic In the green white and gold Oh Celtic oh Celtic You'll never walk alone And it's Celtic, and it's Celtic Wherever I may roam When I see Paradise then I know that I'm home Well everyone has all their hopes and their dreams All the things they want that are just out of reach But nothing compares to where I am now Walking up London road in the heart of this crowd And it's Celtic, and it's Celtic In the green white and gold Oh Celtic oh Celtic You'll never walk alone And it's Celtic, and it's Celtic Wherever I may roam When I see Paradise then I know that I'm home I know that I'm home When I walk through those gates And all the glory days and the years Of the good and the great Like Johnstone and Larsson, McNeill and McStay And it's Celtic, and it's Celtic In the green white and gold Oh Celtic oh Celtic You'll never walk alone And it's Celtic, and it's Celtic Wherever I may roam When I see Paradise then I know that I'm home

Everything changes I guess that's true to say But there's one thing that I know will always stay the same Seasons come and seasons go and Celtic are still my team For the past, the present and the future We have seen the glory days yet more is yet to come From '67 to Seville to Hamden in the sun We've seen it all before and we'll see it all again In the past the present and the future Ceasar and Lennox and Kenny Dalglish Johnston and Larsson and the big man Jock Stein Sutton and Hartson and Nakamura Celtic past, present and the future There's some things you can't forget we'll never let them go Like beating Rangers 7-1 and doing 9 in a row We have seen the glory days and the best is yet to come From the past, the present and the future Ceasar and Lennox and Kenny Dalglish Johnston and Larsson and the big man Jock Stein Sutton and Hartson and Nakamura Celtic past, present and the future

By a lonely prison wall I heard a young girl calling Micheal they are taking you away For you stole Trevelyn's corn So the young might see the morn. Now a prison ship lies waiting in the bay. Low lie the Fields of Athenry Where once we watched the small free birds fly. Our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing It's so lonely 'round the Fields of Athenry. By a lonely prison wall I heard a young man calling Nothing matters Mary when you're free, Against the Famine and the Crown I rebelled they ran me down Now you must raise our child with dignity. Low lie the Fields of Athenry Where once we watched the small free birds fly. Our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing It's so lonely 'round the Fields of Athenry. By a lonely harbour wall She watched the last star falling As that prison ship sailed out against the sky Sure she'll wait and hope and pray For her love in Botany Bay It's so lonely 'round the Fields of Athenry. Low lie the Fields of Athenry Where once we watched the small free birds fly. Our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing It's so lonely 'round the Fields of Athenry.

Sure it's a great old team to play for Sure it's a great old team bedad When you read its history It's enough to make your heart grow sad God bless them We don't care if we win, lose or draw Darn the hair do we care Because we only know that there's going to be a show And the Glasgow Celtic will be there Sure it's the best darn team in Scotland And the players all are grand We support the Celtic As they are the finest in the land we love them We'll be there to give the Bhoys a cheer When the league flag flies And it cheers us up when we know the Scottish Cup Is coming home to rest at Paradise Sure it's a great old team to play for Sure it's a great old team bedad When we read its history It's enough to make your heart grow sad God bless them We don't care if we win lose or draw Darn the hair do we care Because we only know that there's going to be a show And the Glasgow Celtic will be there And the Glasgow Celtic will be there

On the Fourth of July, 1806 We set sail from the sweet Cobh of Cork We were sailing away with a cargo of bricks For the Grand City Hall in New York 'Twas a wonderful craft She was rigged fore and aft And oh, how the wild wind drove her She stood several blasts She had twenty seven masts And they called her The Irish Rover We had one million bags of the best Sligo rags We had two million barrels of stones We had three million sides of old blind horses hides' We had four million barrels of bones We had five million hogs six million dogs Seven million barrels of porter We had eight million barrels of old nanny goate tails In the hold of the Irish Rover There was awl Mickey Coote Who played hard on his flute And the ladies lined up for a set He would tootle with skill For each sparkling quadrille Though the dancers were fluther'd and bet With his smart witty talk He was cock of the walk As he rolled the dames under and over They all knew at a glance When he took up his stance That he sailed in The Irish Rover There was Barney McGee From the banks of the Lee There was Hogan from County Tyrone There was Johnny McGurk Who was scared stiff of work And a man from Westmeath called Malone There was Slugger O'Toole Who was drunk as a rule And Fighting Bill Tracy from Dover And your man, Mick McCann From the banks of the Bann Was the skipper of the Irish Rover For a sailor its' always a bother in life It's so lonesome by night and by day That he longs for the shore and a charming young whore Who will melt all his troubles away Oh, the noise and the rout Swillin' poiteen and stout For him soon the torment's over Of the love of a maid he is never afraid An old salt from the Irish Rover We had sailed seven years When the measles broke out And the ship lost its way in the fog And that whale of a crew Was reduced down to two Just myself and the Captain's old dog Then the ship struck a rock Oh Lord! what a shock The bulkhead was turned right over Turned nine times around And the poor old dog was drowned I'm the last of The Irish Rover

about

Johnny Mac and The Faithful present this collection of songs from Celtic's past present and future.

Including 'The Celtic Song', 'You'll Never Walk Alone', and 'We Shall Overcome', as recorded for the John Hartson foundation as a tribute to his tremendous career at Celtic, and to the great spirit and inspiration he has shown in overcoming his illness.

Being lifelong Celtic fans, we've partied, sang and danced to all the favourite Celtic songs, at games, and in pubs and clubs in Glasgow and all around the world. Influenced by the likes of The Pogues and The Saw Doctors as well our family's love of traditional Irish music, here is our take on those songs from Celtic's proud history, and some new numbers to pay tribute to heros of more modern times, and to sing for our future triumphs.

We hope you enjoy hearing these songs afresh, as much as we enjoyed recording them. Hail hail!
